Sacraments
The sacraments accompany us through every stage of life, from birth to death. At St. Augustine’s, we are here to guide you through each one.

1. Baptism (infant)
The beginning of a child’s life in the faith. A preparation course for parents and godparents covers the meaning of baptism, the responsibilities of parents and godparents, and what to expect at the ceremony. Baptisms typically take place on the last Sunday of each month, after the 12:45 PM English Mass.

2. Confession (Reconciliation)
Available every Tuesday and Saturday, 11:00–12:00, at St. Augustine’s Church, no appointment needed. Individual confession by appointment is also available.
Whether it has been months or decades, you are welcome. The priest is there to offer God’s forgiveness and encouragement, not judgement.

3. First Holy Communion
For children aged 7 and older. The programme includes learning about the Eucharist and the celebration of Mass, understanding the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and a retreat for children and parents.

4. Confirmation
For baptised teens and adults who have not yet received this sacrament. It deepens faith and strengthens the bond with the Church through the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

5. Marriage
Congratulations. The sacrament of marriage is a profound act of faith and love. A marriage preparation course explores the sacrament, communication, commitment, and building a life together in faith.
Recent baptismal certificates (issued within the past 6 months) are required. In the Netherlands, a civil marriage must take place before or alongside a church wedding. If either partner has been previously married — civilly or in the Church — please contact us as soon as possible, as a special procedure may be required and can take several months to a year; in some cases a church wedding may not be possible. If you are marrying abroad, the preparation must still take place in the Netherlands, and an official English-language document confirming the marriage is valid under both civil and church law must be provided to the Dutch municipality. Together with the priest you will choose Scripture readings, music, and the involvement of loved ones.

6. Becoming Catholic (RCIA)
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: a journey into the Catholic faith. Open to adults who have never been baptised, Christians from other denominations seeking full communion, and baptised Catholics who have not yet received Confirmation or First Eucharist.
Expect weekly sessions exploring Catholic beliefs and practices, prayer, Scripture, reflection, and preparation for receiving the sacraments at the Easter Vigil.

7. Anointing of the Sick
For anyone facing serious illness, surgery, or advanced age, not only those at the very end of life. It can be administered at the church, at home, or in hospital. Do not hesitate to ask. This sacrament brings strength, peace, and healing. For urgent situations, call 030 254 6147.

8. Home Communion
For parishioners who are unable to attend Mass due to illness or limited mobility, a minister of the Eucharist can bring Communion to your home.

9. House Blessing
Many families ask for their new home to be blessed: a meaningful tradition, especially for those settling in a new city.

10. Mass Intentions
You can request that a Mass be offered for a specific intention: for a loved one who has died, someone who is ill, a wedding anniversary, or a personal need. Submit by email or speak to one of the priests after Sunday Mass.

11. Funerals
When someone you love has died, you should not have to face it alone. Our parish accompanies families through grief with a funeral Mass, pastoral support, and prayer. Contact the parish as early as possible. For immediate situations, see the Urgent pastoral need page.
