Pilgrimage to the Titus Brandsma Memorial

On Saturday, 11 July, we as members of the St Augustine’s International Community came together for a day of prayer, fellowship, and spiritual reflection as we made a pilgrimage to the Titus Brandsma Memorial Church in Nijmegen.

Our pilgrimage to the Titus Brandsma Memorial in Nijmegen last July was a beautiful opportunity to step away from our busy routines and journey together in faith.

We were warmly welcomed by Carmelite Sister Sanny Bruijns, who shared with us about her own calling to religious life and her experience and connection with St. Titus Brandsma. Hearing about her relationship with God and the way St. Titus has been an intercessor in her life was truly inspiring.

Sister Sanny also shared the history of the Memorial, the Carmelite tradition, and the story of the Catholic faith in the Netherlands. Her personal testimony brought the history of St. Titus Brandsma to life and helped us see how his legacy continues to speak to the Church today.

It was a beautiful Saturday filled with prayer, learning, friendship, and joy. We are very grateful to the Titus Brandsma Memorial team, to Sister Sanny for welcoming and sharing her story with us, and to our beloved Father Gauthier for helping make this pilgrimage possible.

May St. Titus Brandsma continue to intercede for our community and inspire us to live our faith with courage, hope, and love.

‘O Jezus’ – Poem fragment by Saint Titus Bradsma 1942 while imprisoned by the Nazis

“For Thou, O Jesus, art with me
I have never been so close to You.
Stay with me, with me, Jesus sweet,
Your presence makes all things good for me.”

— St Titus Brandsma
