Maastricht and Roermond day trip

On Sunday, the 14th of May, we are organizing a day trip to Maastricht and Roermond. Two ancient cities in southern Netherlands with a very interesting history and magnificent churches and buildings.Roermond

First we will travel by train to Roermond and attend the Holy Mass in Our Lady Minster Church in Roermond, the only example of a church in late-Romanesque style, and this is part of the Rhenish Romanesque group. The minster name comes from the Latin and means monastery cloister which indicates that the church was originally an abbey church. The church was founded around 1218 by Count Gerard III of Gelredome.

Then we continue with the traMaastrichtin to Maastricht, where we will attend an annual procession. During this procession the relics of St. Servaas are paraded through the city.

Many associations in Maastricht will participate in this procession. It is a procession where people from near and far come to see this magnificent spectacle.

After the procession we will light a candle in the Our Lady basilica and we end the day with a prayer of thanks in its chapel. This basilica is a world famous pilgrimage site, which you can see from the hundreds of candles burning here daily.

And of course there will also be plenty of time to enjoy coffee with a delicious piece of Limburg flan (a regional type of pastry).

We will travel by train using a group return discount ticket (costs 7-14 EUR depending on group size). These will be the only costs besides meals, snacks and beverages that each one can decide to take.
