Pilgrimage to St. Michael and St. Gudula Cathedral Brussels

The Cathedral of St. Michael and St. Gudula is a church building in the historic center of Brussels. The construction of the cathedral was in the early 13th century started under the leadership of Henry I, Duke of Brabant. Until the breakdown of the Mechelen diocese in 1961 was a collegiate church that was dedicated to Saint Michael and in which a chapter was founded in 1047 in honor of Saint Gudula.
In the second half of the 20th century the Mechelen diocese was reorganized: firstly, the Antwerp diocese was split (the Our Lady Church of Antwerp was the Cathedral of Our Lady Cathedral of the new diocese). The rest of the former diocese of Malines was renamed the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels. The Primate of Belgium maintained, as before, his headquarters in Mechelen in the Archbishop’s Palace. The main Brussels church was elevated to cathedral. Around the turn of century, the tradition to name the cathedral to St Michael and St Gudula.

Next Sunday October 25, 14:30 there will be once again an afternoon movie, this time about the Holy Jeanne d’Arc.
Her faith gave her a mission. Her king gave her an assignment. Her country was her army. She brought freedom for her people, until the people that had revered her destroyed her.
